Things to Do in Upcountry Maui

Upcountry Maui Sights, Restaurants, Gardens, Farms, Towns

Upcountry is the part of Maui on the western slopes of Haleakala (the side of the volcano that faces Maui’s central valley).  Upcountry includes many of Maui’s farms, ranches, and gardens, as well as wonderful little towns to explore and restaurants to enjoy.

Because of its elevation, it is a little cooler in Upcountry than at the beach.  It takes about an hour to drive to Upcountry from the resort areas of Kaanapali or Wailea.  You have to first drive to the city of Kahului (where the airport is) and then continue from there to Highway 37, the Haleakala Highway, which leads up the slope of Haleakala.
