QUESTION[the_ad id=”12277″]

My wife and I like to try restaurants that are very local, and generally try to avoid chain style restaurants.  We will be on Maui for a week, staying at one of the big hotels on Kaanapali Beach.  I was hoping if you could tell me some locations that are “hidden gems” that we should try out.

Wonderful restaurants are one of my favorite things about Maui. Bear in mind that you will have to get away from the tourist areas, in order to get to local places, so some of them will be 45 to 60 minutes away from your hotel. Here are the restaurants I recommend that I think will be the type of local hidden gems that you want to try out.

Da Kitchen   Inexpensive   Kahului = Central

Cafe Des Amis  Inexpensive   Paia = Central

Cafe O’Lei at the Dunes   Moderate   Central Valley

Leoda’s Kitchen & Pie Shop   Inexpensive   Olowalu = West Side[the_ad id=”12741″]

Zippy’s    Inexpensive    Kahului = Central

Brigit & Bernard’s   Inexpensive   Kahului = Central

Cuatro   Moderate   Kihei = South Side

Lahaina Coolers   Inexpensive   Lahaina = West Side

Paia Fish Market   Inexpensive   Paia = Central
Also branches in Kihei and Lahaina

Kula Bistro    Moderate    Upcountry = Central

A Saigon Cafe   Inexpensive   Wailuku = Central

Sam Satos   Inexpensive   Wailuku = Central
