Maui Ocean Center

Maui Aquarium

The Maui Ocean Center is a large modern aquarium with numerous indoor and outdoor exhibits of a wide variety of fish and sea life.  It’s an excellent, entertaining, and educational experience for all ages.  This fabulous facility is in Maʻalaea, at the south end of Maui’s central valley, about 30 minutes drive from the main tourist areas of west or south Maui.  Open 365 days per year, from 9 AM to 5 PM.  For up-to-date admission prices, call 808-270-7000.

About The Maui Aquarium

Among the many fun things to see at the Maui Ocean Center are the outdoor touch pools, sharks, rays, green sea turtles, jellyfish, the largest live coral display in the U.S., and thousands of fish.  Perhaps most spectacular is the walk through the acrylic tunnel, where you are surrounded by a 750,000 gallon “open ocean exhibit.”  There are live naturalists giving scheduled talks every day, and answering your questions all day.  Recorded audio tours are also available for you to carry through all areas and play at each exhibit.  I suggest you allow three hours for your visit, plus time for lunch at their Seascape restaurant.  Don’t miss the large gift shop just before the exit.

For an extra treat, and to learn more about the Maui Ocean Center and its aquatic inhabitants, take the Behind The Scenes Tour. On this one-hour adventure, a naturalist will take you in a small group, into the hidden work areas, and teach you how the aquarium takes care of its many sea creatures.  You’ll also get to feed the turtles and the rays. Some behind-the-scenes tour photos are included with the other pictures below.
