Maui’s Favorite Bakery

T Komoda Store in Makawao

Maui residents and repeat Maui tourists have a favorite bakery.  It’s T Komoda Store and Bakery at 3674 Baldwin in Makawao.  Phone 808-572-7261.

T Komoda is known for four special bakery items (all shown in photos below): cream puffs, stick donuts, long Johns, and guava malasadas.  Each one of those is amazing and delicious.  But they also have wonderful pies, cakes, cocoa puffs, butter rolls, bread, cookies, and everything else you would expect a major bakery to have.  This place is so popular that they sell out of many items early in the day.  They open at 7 AM, and it’s best to get there by 10 AM or earlier to have the best selection.  They are closed on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Makawao is a cute old cowboy town with interesting shops and galleries, so plan on a half-day to see the town when you come to T Komoda Bakery.  It’s about an hour from Lahaina or Kaanapali and about 45 minutes from Kihei.

The Komoda store is old and dim, and the service seems disinterested, without a smile or friendly chat.  But it’s worth it for the delicious pastries.
