Kihei Food Samples, Restaurants,
History, Stores, Guided Tour
Local Tastes of Maui offers a delicious, fun and educational walking tour of the town of Kihei, the town of tourist condos, beaches and family restaurants.
This tour, often led by lifelong Maui resident Laurel Murphy, takes a small group on a 2-hour stroll through town. You will learn about the history of Maui since the time of the missionaries. You will see old photos of the area, and will stop frequently for taste samples of numerous foods at Kihei restaurants. You’ll discover stores and little food outlets you never knew about.
Typical food samples on the tour include huevos rancheros at Fred’s Mexican Cafe, banana bread French toast at 808 Bistro, pudding at 808 Deli, cinnamon rolls at Cinnamon Roll Place, plate lunch (kalua pork, BBQ chicken, sticky rice) at Da Kitchen, smoothies at S&Q Coffee & Shave Ice, local bananas at Hawaiian Moons natural food store, and mochi filled with ice cream at Maui Gelato.
You will learn about the missionaries who came to Maui in the 1820’s. You will hear about the Baldwin family and the Alexander family, missionaries whose descendants became important businessmen on Maui through the rest of the 19th century.
At the end of the tour, you will receive a card good for discounts at many of the restaurants you have visited during the tour.
