Ritz Carlton Maui
Ritz Carlton Resort Hotel, Kapalua, Maui
The Ritz Carlton in Kapalua is a Ritz, so of course, it is ritzy. It was extensively remodeled in 2007. The hotel has large beautiful grounds and lobby, scenic views, and excellent service. The 356 hotel rooms and 107 residential (being sold like condos) rooms are more generously sized (440 square feet) than in most hotels and the decor is elegant. Its located in Kapalua, which some people prefer because it is a few miles away from the crowds of Kaanapali and Lahaina. Phone 808-669-6200.
Our experience
We spent just one night at the Ritz-Carlton in Kapalua, but it felt like a full getaway. The room was spacious and had everything we needed, with a peaceful view that reminded us exactly why we love West Maui.
Though the resort offers a packed schedule (tennis courts, pickleball, paddleboarding) we kept things simple and stayed close to the pools. There are several of them, spread out enough that we never felt crowded, and the vibe was just the right kind of relaxed.
We kicked off the day with breakfast at Ulana Terrace, where everything from the service to the coffee hit the mark. Lunch at the Burger Shack might have stolen the show, thanks to its laid-back feel and front-row seat to the ocean.
The Ritz Kapalua luau that evening was the perfect sendoff. The food was some of the best we’ve had at a luau, and the performances—from traditional hula to aerial silks and the fire knife dance—were top-tier.
Before checking out the next morning, we squeezed in a walk to the beach just below the resort at Flemings. We saw turtles sleeping (as well as a baby turtle in the water!)
About The Ritz Carlton Maui
There are two problems with the Ritz Carlton Kapalua:
- There is more chance of clouds, wind, or rain in Kapalua than in other Maui luxury resort areas (Kaanapali and Wailea). But that’s also why the landscapes are so lush.
- The beach at the Maui Ritz is a ten-minute walk downhill from the hotel (and an uphill walk on the way back). They do have a shuttle available to and from the beach. We opted to walk, but it was available every time we would have used it.
Restaurants at the Ritz are the Banyan Tree (fabulous food), Terrace (Pacific cuisine and buffet breakfast), and the casual little Burger Shack down by the beach. There’s also a Lobby Lounge with drinks and light food, plus a singer most evenings. If you want quiet, elegant luxury, and don’t mind the imperfect weather or the walk to the beach, the Ritz will pamper you.
