Maui Submarine & Glass-Bottom Boat

Atlantis & Reefdancer

There are two rides available on Maui that allow you to see below the ocean surface without getting wet.  Atlantis is a real submarine with viewing windows, and Reefdancer is a boat that stays on the surface but has a lower level where you sit below the surface and look out into the ocean.

Atlantis has the advantage of taking you much deeper, and they have an old sunken boat that you can view while you are down there.  Reefdancer has the advantage of staying near the surface where the lighting is brighter.  Atlantis is much more expensive, costing about three times as much per ride as Reefdancer.  Reefdancer has 60-minute and 90-minute tours.  Atlantis tours take an hour and 45 minutes, but you are only underwater on the submarine for 45 minutes (the rest of the time is spent on a shuttle boat to and from the harbor).  Both depart from Lahaina Harbor on the west side of Maui.  Both have mixed reviews, with some people loving the experience, but many others saying they saw very few fish and it was not worth the cost.  These rides may be best for kids or for people who do not want to snorkel on Maui.
