History and Mythology at ʻUlalena Musical in Lahaina

The Maui Theater (often spelled Maui Theatre, and formerly called Maui Myth and Magic) was the home of ʻUlalena.  This was a live musical stage show about the history and mythology of the Hawaiian islands.  The show closed in May of 2018.

ʻUlalena was a Cirque du Soleil style show, with amazing acrobatics, dancing, and special effects.  It is done in the Hawaiian language, so be sure to read the English playbill that you receive as you enter so that you can understand who the characters are and what the story is about.  The music is mostly drums and chants.

When you have already seen a luau show and heard Hawaiian singers in the background at Maui restaurants, it is time for something different and unique. The Ulalena show is a terrific experience and is unlike anything else on Maui.

The Ulalena show CLOSED in May of 2018. Maui Theater seats 680 people.  It’s at 878 Front Street in the Old Lahaina Center.
