Which Hawaiian Islands Can You See From Maui?
QUESTION:
What islands are visible from the shores of Maui?
ANSWER:
There are five Hawaiian islands that you can see from the coasts of Maui.
From West Maui (Lahaina
and Kaanapali side) you can see Lanai and Molokai.
From South Maui (Kihei and Wailea side) you can see Kahoolawe
and Molokini (and from some areas also Lanai). From the
east side (Hana) you can see the Big Island of Hawaii.
You can see all five of those other islands from the top of Haleakala volcano if
the weather is clear. On an exceptionally clear day you can see the Big Island
of Hawaii from the whale-watching lookout point just south of Maalaea, and from
the south part of West Maui. There is an inaccessible point on the shore in
Olowalu where you can see five islands on a very clear day.
You cannot see Oahu (Honolulu) from Maui.
