How to Create Your Own Free Walking Tour of Maui’s Great 5-Star Resorts

Maui has several top-quality resorts with beautiful lobbies, grounds, and pools.  Whether you are staying in one of these high-end hotels or not, you can tour them at no cost.  All of the hotels welcome visitors, so all you have to do is show up.

On the West Side of Maui, the three best resorts to see are on Kaanapali Beach:  the Hyatt, Westin, and Sheraton.  You can park at Whalers Village shopping center and walk along the beachside sidewalk to those three and all the other hotels and condos along this famous strip.  My favorite is the Hyatt, which has live penguins, flamingos, parrots, and cranes, plus loads of oriental art, and a pool with a large waterfall

On the South Side of Maui, the two best resorts to see are in Wailea:  the Grand Wailea and the Four Seasons.  They are a little more spread out than those in Kaanapali, so you’ll have to drive to each individual hotel.  (If you don’t want to pay for valet parking when you drive up to the entrance ask them to point you to the free parking area.)  My favorite lobbies and pools are at the Grand, but the best art is at the Four Seasons.

You can’t swim in the pools at any of these hotels when you are not staying at that hotel.  But you can walk all over the lobbies and grounds and pools areas, enjoy the sights, look in the shops, and eat in the restaurants if you like.  They are all worth seeing.
