Aloha,
There are a lot of "Early Bird Specials" for dinner on Maui this year. If you are willing to have supper between 5:30 and 6:30 (some restaurants as early as 4:30 or as late as 7:00), you can save a lot of money. Here are just a few of the many examples. Five Palms in Kihei and Lahaina has half-price pupus (appetizers) and sushi, enough to make a whole meal out of. Cane and Taro in Kaanapali has 50% off all food on Tuesday and Wednesday
during the early bird hours, 25% off for those hours on other days. Three's in Kihei has half-price appetizers. Hula Grill at Whalers Village has smaller portions at reduced prices for complete dinners. Kahana Sands in Kahana has half off all entrees. Big Wave Cafe in Kihei has buy one entree get one at half price. Call those and other restaurants before you go, to verify what their latest offers are, and what time you have to go, for
those early dinner discounts. See my lists of recommended
West Maui Restaurants and
South Maui Restaurants for links to reviews, food photos, and restaurant phone numbers.

Mahana condos
Mahana is a two-building 12-story condo about a mile north of the main Kaanapali Beach resort area. This is one of the only condos on Maui where every unit is beach-front, directly on the beach and facing the ocean, with great views. So it's a great place to stay any month, but especially in the winter during whale season, when you can see whales right from the lanai of your room.
There are studio, one and two-bedroom condos, all air conditioned, all with complete kitchens, and all with their own washers and dryers. On the grounds are a heated swimming pool, Jacuzzi, tennis court, and shuffleboard court. Free wi-fi. Expedia has an excellent concierge in the lobby to help you with activity reservations. There's no restaurant in the building, but there is a small food cart selling sandwiches and snacks. A large grocery store and a couple small restaurants are a 5-minute walk, or 1-minute drive, away.
Most rentals at Mahana are managed by Aston. Prices run all the way from $197 to $640 per night, depending on size of unit (how many bedrooms), time of year, and length of stay (some specials give third or fifth night free). There are discounts for travelers over 50 years old, or for AAA members.

See a Beautiful Maui Moonset
One of Maui's many beautiful sights, is a full moon setting into the ocean, and reflecting moonlight across the ocean toward you.
The best time to see this in a dark sky is around 4 to 5 AM. If your hotel room or condo faces the ocean you can see it from your lanai (balcony), without having to leave the room. But if you don't want to get up that early to look at the moon in your pajamas, you can see a first-quarter moon setting into the ocean around midnight.
Details of how, where, and when to view this sight, as well as a larger photo, are at this link:
