Zipline Activities in Kaanapali, Haleakala, KapaluaA zipline is a wire that is strung very high above the ground, attached to trees or other anchors at each end. You dangle from that high wire, attached by straps or harness or ropes or pulleys. You then ride for a few seconds at a time, very fast, along the wire, from one platform or hill or tree to another. There are several zipline sites on Maui, with significant differences between the lengths of the rides, how to get to them, their costs, and what comes with the ride. So see the section below for a discussion about those choices of Maui ziplines. Ziplines can be dangerous. As with all activities, discuss the risks with the tour operator and investigate on your own before deciding. You will need closed toed shoes. Ziplines are not for pregnant women or people with back problems or other medical conditions. |

Maui Zipline tours compared Haleakala Skyline Tour 808-878-8400 This is one of two ziplines offered by Skyline Eco-Adventures, a company founded in 2002. Their Haleakala Skyline Tour includes a short hike plus five zipline crossings. It's in the cool Upcountry area of Maui, on the side of Haleakala volcano (not in the crater). You have to drive up to Highway 378, which is over an hour away from the resort areas of Kaanapali and Wailea. This is the shortest time tour and the least expensive Maui zipline. Skyline Eco-Adventures Haleakala course website Kaanapali Skyline Adventure 808-878-8400 This is the second of the two zipline areas offered by Skyline Eco-Adventures. Their Kaanapali Skyline Adventure includes a ride in an off-road vehicle up into the hills, hike, lunch, and eight ziplines. It's in a warmer part of Maui than the above Haleakala tour. You meet first at the Fairway Shops on the main highway in Kaanapali, so this is a close location if you are staying on the west side of Maui (Lahaina-Kaanapali-Honokowai-Kahana-Kapalua), but over an hour away if you are staying in Wailea or Kihei (south side). This is a longer tour, lasting about 4 hours, including ride and breakfast or lunch, and so is more expensive than the above Haleakala Skyline tour. Skyline Eco-Adventures Kaanapali course website Piiholo Ranch Zipline 808-572-1717 This company offers more choices than the above ziplines. You can go on four ziplines or on five, and can add climbing on their "Tango Tower." It's also the only Maui Zipline in which up to four people can zip side-by-side. Or you can skip the ziplines and just do a walk-along. The Piiholo Ranch even offers horseback riding too. Your startup location for this zipline is near Makawao, a town in Upcountry, so not near the resort areas, but not quite as far as the Haleakala Skyline. Cost is higher than either Haleakala or Kaanapali Skylines. Piiholo Ranch Zipline website Kapalua Adventures 877-665-4386 This zipline also offers multiple choices. Their shortest course is four ziplines, or you can do their "Challenge Zip" that is higher and longer, or their longer tour with zipline plus giant swing and lunch, or their "Ultimate" with seven ziplines and off-road ride and lunch and scenic views. It all begins on Village Road in Kapalua, near the Ritz Carlton Hotel. That's about a 15-minute drive north from Kaanapali or about 20 minutes from Lahaina. It would be well over an hour drive from south Maui (Kihei or Wailea). Cost is in the middle range if you do their shortest tour, but much more expensive than any of the above others if you do their longest tour. Kapalua Adventures ziplines website Flyin' Hawaiian Zipline 808-463-5786 This course has 8 ziplines, including the longest zipline in Hawaii. That longest line is 3200 feet across three ridgelines and two valleys, and takes more than a minute to zip, with speed reaching as high as 60 mph. The tour starts at the Maui Tropical Plantation in Maui's central valley, about 45 minutes drive from the resort areas of West Maui or South Maui. The total tour, including all 8 ziplines and hiking and being driven to and from the start and end points by their guides, takes up to 5 hours. Flyin' Hawaiian Zipline website |
