Mauian is at 5441 Lower Honoapiilani Road in Napili, between Kaanapali and Kapalua. Phone 808-669-6205.

With the major remodeling done to all of its units and grounds in 2009, the Mauian has become a hidden gem. All 44 studio units and hotel rooms (in three 2-story buildings built in 1959) now have identical upgraded furnishings, including granite countertops and dark-wood armoires (no closets). The pretty grounds have new travertine walkways, and plumeria trees in front of each building. The complex sits on a large sandy beach on gorgeous Napili Bay. They even provide a free daily continental breakfast.

Mauian does have four disadvantages: no separate bedrooms (all studios), no air conditioning, no telephones in the rooms, and no TV in the rooms (though there is a TV in the central meeting room near the office). But if you can live with those problems, this is a way to get a stylish room beside an excellent beach.
