Marriott's Maui Ocean
Club (Marriott Vacation Club timeshare)
Marriott's Maui Ocean Club is a timeshare that is part of the Marriott
Vacation Club system. It has been converted over the last few years
from the Maui Marriott Resort Hotel into this timeshare. The first
step in the conversion was a major expansion of the pools and the addition
of children's water play areas. The second step was combining every
two hotel rooms into one timeshare room. The third step is that they
are presently constructing two additional buildings for more timeshare
units.
The Marriott is on Kaanapali Beach, within walking
distance of major resort hotels and condos. Because they are really
converted hotel rooms, the Marriott's rooms do not provide as much space as
normal multi-bedroom timeshares or condos, and they lack the full kitchen
that most people expect in a condo or timeshare unit. There have been
some complaints about the rooms posted in reviews on TripAdvisor. But
the rooms in the new buildings should be better.
My main concern about people staying at Marriott's
Maui Ocean Club, is that they may be talked into buying a timeshare that I
feel is tremendously overpriced. When all charges for such a timeshare
purchase are considered, it appears to me that it would be cheaper to just
bank that money and use it to stay at any hotel or condo you like, whether
on Maui or elsewhere.

There is another Marriott on Maui, called the
Wailea
Marriott. That one is in a completely different part of Maui and is
not a timeshare.
If you already own a Marriott timeshare someplace
else and can trade for this one, or if you can get a good price on a room to
stay here without buying a timeshare, then the Marriott Ocean Club on Maui
would be a good place to stay.
