Andaz Wailea Resort Maui Andaz (pronounced ahn-dahs) is a new hotel being built in Wailea at the site of the former Renaissance Wailea Beach Resort Maui, which closed in September of 2007. Before the Renaissance, this hotel was the Stouffer Wailea (opened in 1978). Since 2007, there have been proposals to re-open it as St. Regis, as One Wailea, and as Baccarat, but all of those fell through because of the poor economy. In the last half of 2011, work began to convert this old Renaissance hotel into an new Andaz hotel. The three guest wings of the original hotel will be remodeled as part of the new hotel. Opening is planned for 2013. Andaz Wailea will be a 255-unit luxury hotel with personal service, with restaurant, four outdoor infinity pools, spa, bar, gym, and meeting space. But the rooms will not be large (about 400 square feet). It is to be developed by Hyatt and Starwood Capital Group. There are five other Andaz hotels in the world, with six more being planned. The Andaz Wailea will also have 19 shoreside villas for sale rather than for rent. The top restaurant in the new Andaz Wailea Resort will be called Morimoto Maui, run by Iron Chef Masaharu, who has been on TV in Iron Chef and Iron Chef America. See photos below.
