Lahaina Parking

QUESTION

Where can I find free or paid parking in Lahaina? How long can I park there? Can I park free by getting my parking ticket validated at Lahaina shops or restaurants?

ANSWER

There is very little on-street parking in Lahaina, and it can be hard to get in and out of the street parking spaces because of traffic.  But there are many paid parking lots and a couple free lots.  You can park as long as you want if you don't mind paying, but the rare free lots have time limits.

The largest free parking lot in Lahaina is at the corner of Prison Street and Front Street.  Because is is free, it is often full, but you may get lucky and pull in as someone else pulls out.  It has a 3-hour limit. Don't park in the spaces marked "buses only" there, because I have often seen all the cars in those spaces with parking violation tickets on their windshields.

The biggest parking lot in Lahaina, where you can always find a space and can stay as long as you like, is a paid lot (and connected parking structure) on the north side of Papalaua street, about a half block inland from Front Street. It is the parking lot of the "Lahaina Center" which is the shopping center that includes Hard Rock Cafe and Hilo Hattie store.  Another paid lot that practically always has available spaces is behind the Wharf Cinema Center, which is the 3-story shopping center across from the Banyan Tree Park.  Enter that lot from Wainee Street, between Dickenson and Prison Streets.

Some stores or restaurants will "validate" your parking for a free or discounted stay in some of the paid lots, but only for a limit such as 2 hours.  Any of the stores or restaurants in the Lahaina Center mentioned above will stamp your parking card for 2 free hours of parking in that lot.  Any of the stores or restaurants in the Wharf Center will stamp your parking card for a short free stay or a longer half-price stay in the parking lot behind that shopping center.
