Ritz-Carlton Resort
Hotel, Kapalua, MauiThe Ritz Carlton
in Kapalua is a Ritz, so of course it is ritzy. It was closed for a
major remodel for about six months in 2007. The hotel has large
beautiful grounds and lobby, scenic views, and excellent service. The
356 hotel rooms and 107 residential (being sold like condos) rooms are more
generously sized than in most hotels and the decor is elegant. Its located in Kapalua, which some people prefer because it
is a few miles away from the crowds of Kaanapali and Lahaina.
However, there are two problems with the Ritz Carlton
Kapalua. (1) There is more chance of clouds, wind or rain in Kapalua
than in Maui's other luxury resort areas (Kaanapali and Wailea). (2)
The beach at the Maui Ritz is a ten-minute walk downhill from the hotel (and
an uphill walk on the way back). They do have a shuttle available to
and from the beach, but personally I prefer a hotel with the beach right out
front.
Restaurants at the Ritz are the Banyan Tree (fabulous
food), Terrace (Pacific cuisine and buffet breakfast), Kai (sushi), and the
casual little Beach House Grill down by the beach. There's also a
Lobby Lounge with drinks and light food, plus a singer most evenings.
If you want quiet, elegant luxury, and don't mind the
imperfect weather or the walk to the beach, the Ritz will pamper you.
