Baccarat Wailea Resort
& Residences MauiBaccarat is a new
luxury resort hotel and condos coming to Wailea, Maui, in about 2011.
It is being built to replace the former Renaissance Wailea Beach Resort
Maui, which closed in September of 2007. Baccarat is a new brand
owned by Starwood Capital Group, which is unrelated to Starwood Hotels
(Sheraton, Westin, W Hotels, Meridien, and St. Regis). The Baccarat on
Maui will be the second in the world, after the Baccarat on the Caribbean
islands of Turks and Caicos.
The Baccarat Wailea Resort & Residences Maui will have 13
buildings, each two to four stories high, with a total of 193 units, each
from one to four bedrooms. Buyers of the units ($1.8 million to $9.9
million) will have the choice of
living in their units or placing them in the hotel rental pool. There
are also plans for a spa and restaurants on the grounds.
The name Baccarat is taken from the French crystal of
the same name. The Renaissance Wailea that the Baccarat is replacing
was originally built in 1978 as the Wailea Beach Hotel, and later was the
Stouffer Wailea Resort.
